The 2022 State of the Flexible Packaging Industry Report from the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) provides industry professionals with an in-depth look at the U.S. flexible packaging industry over the past few years.
The report focuses on industry sector sectors that bring significant value to flexible packaging materials, typically through a variety of processes such as printing, laminating, coating, extrusion, and bagging/pouch making. This segment is expected to reach $29.5 billion by 2021, excluding retail shopping bags, consumer storage bags or trash bags.
According to the report, flexible packaging accounts for about 20% of the US$184.65 billion overall packaging market in the United States and is the second largest market segment after corrugated paper. Films and resins account for the largest input spend by processors, with these two categories accounting for more than two-thirds of material purchases. In 2021, M&A activity was at a record with 62 transactions recorded.
